Walalkara IPA Print

Walalkara IPA protects over 700,000 ha south of Fregon Community, and was declared in 2000. The IPA comprises of a number of rocky outcrops within a mix of sand plain and sand dune country. The Walalkara IPA is currently focused on monitoring the nests of [Vulnerable] Malleefowl, Nganamara (Leipoa ocellata), with targeted ground- and helicopter-based patch burning taking part in the cooler months to protect these sites. The IPA is also investigating possibilities to undertake detailed mapping of vegetation communities, to support fire management and identify further habitat likely to be supporting threatened species.
